ABOUT PEOPLE'S DEMOCRATIC PARTY

People are disenchanted with politics in Britain and who can blame them?  Political parties seem dishonest, out of touch, and dominated by career politicians. It's no wonder that many people don't bother with politics and many don't bother to vote.  But as the EU Referendum shows people are crying out for change. The PDP is determined to offer the people an alternative they can enthusiastically support.
History

Who Are We? The People's Democratic Party was founded in 2012 by people tired of 'politics as usual' and convinced there must be a better way of organising democracy in Britain.

We are committed to involving more real people in politics and fighting the rise of the career politicians who have never done anything in their lives other than politics.

We are placed on the centre ground of politics and believe the truth usually lies somewhere in the middle. Here are links to our Aims & Principles and Constitution which detail what we believe in and how we operate. If you agree with us why not join us?

Party Officers

Nick Beswick - Party President

I’m a 31-year-old father of nearly 2 children(baby is due in April), I’ve been married for 4 years. I’ve played rugby at an amateur level but had to stop due to a serious knee injury I am know a keen cyclist. I have run my own small business for 3 years but decided to call it a day and work for an up and coming composites company closer to home. Since I was 18 I have voted, I feel its important to stand up and have your say even if your not on the winning side.

I joined the PDP as I feel that for the last 30 years successive governments have let us down, education is in turmoil, the NHS is struggling and we have no real opposition to the government. The cost of living has sky rocketed, I’m passionate about research into clean cheap renewable energy, we need to improve public transport and infrastructure, smaller towns and villages need safe cycling routes linking them to larger towns and cities you can’t ask people to cycle and then not provide safe routes. We need to bring common sense back to government and stand up for the middle because they're the people who feel the least listened too.

Lee Holmes - Party Leader

Lee was previously a Conservative Party activist, and an approved parliamentary candidate. He left the party following George Osbourne's "omnishambles" budget of 2012 feeling that the content of the budget with tax cuts for the rich while most people were suffering under austerity was simply wrong.

Lee felt a government, dominated by a millionaire elite, were simply out of touch with real life. Plans for regional pay and benefits would have decimated regions of the UK outside of the affluent South East, when the UK actually needed investment to raise the regions up.

Lee previously campaigned during the 2005 general election for Reg Keys in Tony Blair’s Sedgefield constituency, fighting the spin, lies and illegal wars of New Labour. He helped organise a grassroots coalition of people from across the political spectrum to fight for accountable government and genuine democracy.

Lee says “It’s clear that parties have lost touch with the reality of life in Britain today and govern for their own vested interests. In much of the UK voters have no effective choice as they are faced by one party domination, Tories in the South and Labour in the North”. The Lib Dems are untrustworthy  and UKIP are far to the right of  the Tories. Yet people are crying out for a democratic centre-ground alternative, in touch with their lives, and we at the PDP are determined to offer that alternative”.
